Pertamina Patra Niaga Builds Disaster Awareness Culture in Schools Through PANAH KESATRIA Programme

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, through its Integrated Terminal Balongan, is reinforcing its community contributions via the Community Involvement & Development (CID) programme. One of its key initiatives is PANAH KESATRIA, which stands for Pelajar Tangguh, Kembangkan Sekolah Tanggap dan Ceria (Resilient Students, Developing Responsive and Cheerful Schools), designed to foster a safe, resilient educational environment prepared for potential disasters. The programme equips educators and students with disaster knowledge and skills to ensure the safety of the school community, the continuity of education, and the protection of facilities and infrastructure. PANAH KESATRIA is structured to provide teaching staff and learners with the understanding, skills, and awareness of disaster risks. This capacity building is deemed necessary so that educational activities can continue while helping to protect the school community and assets during emergency situations. VP Corporate Communication of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Kitty Andhora, stated that schools play a vital role in building a culture of preparedness from an early age. Disaster knowledge should become part of the daily routine of the school community so that everyone understands the actions to take when facing an emergency. Now in its second year of implementation at UPTD SMPN 1 Balongan, the programme includes the Gerakan Bumi Lestari (Sustainable Earth Movement) through tree planting and waste management education, Eco School to build a culture of environmental care and the application of 3R principles, Duta Tangguh Bencana (Disaster Resilience Ambassadors) to shape students into preparedness agents, and Immediate Crisis Responses to enhance the ability to respond to emergencies quickly and accurately. The programme also includes replication efforts so that good practices can be applied in other schools. The initiative has directly benefited 62 extracurricular students and 19 teachers, while indirectly benefiting 977 students through improved disaster knowledge, strengthened safety procedures, protection of school facilities, and the creation of a safer, more responsive, and environmentally conscious learning atmosphere. The Head of UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Balongan, Agus Sugiyanto, expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by Pertamina Patra Niaga Integrated Terminal Balongan, noting that the programme’s sustainability helps the school build comprehensive preparedness, from increasing the capacity of the school community to providing safety support facilities. The programme also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being through the creation of a safe school environment, and SDG 4 on Quality Education through school-based disaster education.
