Pertamina Partners with Manta Liberta to Make Jerseys from Plastic Waste
The Pertamina Eco RunFest 2026 continues to strengthen its sustainability initiatives across all activities. The event has specifically partnered with local sports apparel brand Manta Liberta to introduce eco-friendly jerseys made from recycled materials.
PT Pertamina (Persero) Vice President of Corporate Communication Muhammad Baron said the move aligns with the company’s environmental conservation vision. The firm is committed to delivering a green-concept event with optimal waste management.
“The use of environmentally friendly jerseys is one of Pertamina’s commitments to ensure that the implementation of Eco RunFest 2026 truly prioritises environmental aspects,” Baron said in a written statement on Friday (28/8/2026).
The major event is projected to involve around 14,000 runners and 10,000 visitors to the Energizing Music Festival. This large-scale gathering represents a strategic moment to encourage the wider public to move together in protecting the planet.
Baron highlighted the importance of educating people about sustainability principles through functional everyday items. The recycled sportswear is expected to spark genuine awareness among participants.
“From a jersey, we can see how material that was previously waste can have a new life. This is a tangible example of how sustainability principles can be applied in an activity that involves the public at large,” he said.
Meanwhile, Manta Liberta Co-Founder Aldy Nur Prastya explained the process of developing the garment material. Together with Pertamina, the company has dedicated specific research to produce material with global recycled standard certification.
The development of the eco jersey is projected to absorb up to 210,000 used plastic bottles. This remarkable figure is estimated to be equivalent to 2.5 tonnes of plastic waste. Aldy assured that the quality of the recycled clothing remains comfortable for exercise.
“Beyond the recycled material aspect, performance features are also a priority. The recycled jersey material also has anti-bacterial, anti-odour, and moisture-wicking specifications,” Aldy explained.
According to him, the successful creation of recycled products requires the active involvement of many parties. The processing chain includes material collection, processing, and the final design and production stages.
“Cross-sector collaboration is important to expand the utilisation of materials that still have value,” Aldy said.
The eco jersey is just one of seven sustainability initiatives prepared for the Pertamina Eco RunFest 2026. The event also features other flagship programmes such as eco innovation, eco mission, eco talent, eco production, eco waste management, and eco education.
The seven main initiatives are designed to broaden the positive impact of the event across various strategic sectors. The public can experience the peak of the event on 6 December 2026 at the East Parking Plaza and Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
