Pertamina Operates Two LPG Vessels to Maintain National Energy Supply
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Pertamina Patra Niaga is operating two LPG carrier vessels, namely Pertamina Gas 1 (PG1) and Pertamina Gas 2 (PG2), to distribute the LPG supply so that it remains available in various regions of Indonesia.
“PG1 and PG2 have a strategic role in ensuring that the LPG supply can continue to reach people in various regions of Indonesia,” said Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth M.V. Dumatubun, in an official statement received in Jakarta, Friday.
PG1 and PG2 are twin vessels (sister ships) with identical specifications designed to transport liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on a large scale safely and efficiently.
Both vessels have a carrying capacity of approximately 80,000 metric tons of LPG per vessel, with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of approximately 50,000 tons and a vessel length (length overall or LOA) of approximately 225 meters.
In a single voyage, PG1 and PG2 can collectively transport approximately 80,000 metric tons of LPG. This volume is an important part of maintaining the energy supply for the community, especially in the regions of Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, which have high LPG consumption rates.
“Behind the distribution of LPG used every day, there is a fleet operation that works to maintain national energy continuity,” said Roberth.
As an archipelago with more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia’s energy distribution relies heavily on sea transportation. In this case, PG1 and PG2 play a key role in the LPG distribution chain, from terminals to various distribution points throughout Indonesia.
In addition to their large carrying capacity, both vessels also operate year-round with high safety standards. This is important considering that LPG is a high-risk cargo that requires strict management and supervision during the transportation process.
“We ensure that the distribution of LPG runs safely, on time, and reaches all areas. This is part of a continuous effort to maintain national energy resilience,” he said.
Through the operation of PG1 and PG2, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to ensure that the distribution of LPG can run safely, reliably, and sustainably, while maintaining energy connectivity for millions of Indonesians from the sea to various destination areas.
