Climate change is no longer a long-term issue; its impacts are felt today. Therefore, action must begin now and involve all parties.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) supports collaborative steps with stakeholders in providing carbon credits to realise an inclusive low-carbon lifestyle for society.

“Climate change is no longer a long-term issue; its impacts are felt today. Therefore, action must begin now and involve all parties,” said Director of Human Resources & Business Support at Pertamina NRE, A.A.A. Indira Pratyaksa, in his statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Indira stated that one form of this collaboration is the partnership between Pertamina NRE, IDXCarbon, PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk, and Jejakin through the “AKU NET-ZERO HERO” campaign launched this week.

“Through this collaboration, we aim to present solutions that make individual contributions easier, measurable, and directly connected to real impacts on the ground,” Indira said.

This time, Pertamina NRE is issuing carbon credits from a different project, namely the biogas power plant (PLTBg) in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK) managed by the company.

Indira explained that these carbon credits contribute in the form of a joint campaign with carbon emission reductions through Livin’ Planet in the Livin’ by Mandiri app. The campaign also involves Jejakin in its carbon calculations.

Through this campaign, the public is introduced to the concept of carbon offset, a mechanism to compensate for generated carbon emissions by purchasing verified carbon credits that support emission reduction projects.

“That is the essence of the energy transition, how every small step can be converted into sustainable environmental and social impacts,” he added.

The launch of this campaign, Indira continued, is also part of efforts to expand public literacy on carbon markets while building an inclusive and credible ecosystem.

“By providing broader access to society, this collaboration is expected to encourage active public participation in addressing global challenges towards Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target in 2060,” he said.
