Pertamina NRE Introduces Carbon Trading to Young People at PGTC 2026
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has introduced carbon trading to young people, including university students, at Pertamina Goes to Campus (PGTC) 2026. Corporate Secretary of Pertamina NRE, Sri Nur Hidayati, said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday that the initiative forms part of the company’s efforts to educate students about developments in the energy transition and sustainability issues. ‘The introduction of carbon trading is important so that the younger generation understands how carbon trading mechanisms can contribute to emissions reductions and support Indonesia’s decarbonisation targets,’ she said. She added that Pertamina NRE is also showcasing the potential for green jobs, which in recent years has become an international trend as global focus on clean energy and sustainability increases. This shows that energy transition not only presents challenges, but also creates career opportunities and the development of new competencies for youth. Meanwhile, PGTC 2026, under the theme ‘Energising Acceleration for Future Impact’, is an event that connects industry with students to provide understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector in the future. During the event, Pertamina NRE hosted an interactive booth that educates on carbon trading, the process of reducing emissions through carbon credits, and the development of low-carbon energy projects supporting the Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target. Carbon trading is a system that incentives emission reductions; companies or parties that reduce pollution more can ‘sell’ their reductions to other parties with higher emissions. This mechanism motivates more parties to cut emissions because reductions have economic value. For the general public, contributions can also be made through carbon offset programmes, for example by supporting tree planting or clean energy projects to help offset emissions from daily activities. ‘Pertamina NRE’s participation in Pertamina Goes to Campus 2026 is part of the company’s commitment to support the national decarbonisation agenda through the development of clean energy, increasing literacy related to carbon trading, and strengthening the capacity of the younger generation in the sustainable energy sector,’ Sri said.
