Pertamina NRE Explores Renewable Energy Development in Bangladesh to Drive Global Energy Transition
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Pertamina NRE (New & Renewable Energy) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Copenhagen Urban Solar Parks BD Ltd (CUSP) to explore collaboration in developing the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh, including the development of solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants and opportunities for operation and maintenance (O&M).
This cooperation marks an initial step for both companies in exploring investment opportunities and developing clean energy projects in Bangladesh, in line with efforts to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen regional collaboration in the sustainable energy sector.
The partnership also reflects Bangladesh’s confidence in Pertamina NRE’s capabilities and experience in developing new and renewable energy, including managing large-scale solar energy projects at the international level.
Within the scope of this cooperation, both parties will conduct a feasibility study covering technical, market, business, environmental, legal aspects, and project risks.
The President Director of Pertamina NRE, John Anis, stated that this collaboration reflects Pertamina’s seriousness in the energy sector and efforts to expand the development of green energy internationally.
“Amidst a global situation full of uncertainty, this collaboration is an important moment and a strategic step for developing the renewable energy business in Indonesia while also supporting the need for sustainable clean energy in Bangladesh,” said John in a written statement on Saturday (May 16, 2026).
John added that the development of cooperation in Bangladesh could potentially strengthen Pertamina NRE’s international portfolio, which has currently shown positive performance in the Philippines.
“Currently, Pertamina NRE has an installed capacity of more than 1 GWp in the Philippines and continues to grow with a target of reaching 2.6 GWp by the end of this year. This concrete achievement is important capital for Pertamina NRE to develop similar projects in Bangladesh,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chairman of CUSP, Ziaur Rahman, believes that the partnership with Pertamina NRE will open up broader opportunities for synergy in developing solar energy projects in Bangladesh.
“We welcome this collaboration as a strategic step to present innovative, efficient, and impactful clean energy solutions for sustainable development in Bangladesh,” said Ziaur Rahman.
The Director of Investment and Creative Economy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Roy Wahab, expressed his appreciation for the initiative of both companies in strengthening economic and energy cooperation between Indonesia and Bangladesh.
“This partnership reflects the close bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in encouraging green investment and sustainable energy development. Sharing knowledge and experience will certainly benefit both countries,” said Roy.
Through this collaboration, Pertamina NRE and CUSP hope to support the acceleration of the global energy transition and Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target by 2060, while also promoting the development of clean energy, green investment, and the exchange of technology and experience for both countries.
Thus, it can provide economic benefits, strengthen energy resilience, and make a real contribution to addressing climate change challenges and realizing a sustainable energy future.
