Pertamina NRE Explores Renewable Energy Development in Bangladesh
Pertamina NRE (New & Renewable Energy) is exploring cooperation in the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh, including the development of solar power plants and potential cooperation in operation and maintenance.
This was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Copenhagen Urban Solar Parks BD Ltd (CUSP) earlier this week.
President Director of Pertamina NRE, John Anis, in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, said that this cooperation is the initial step for both companies in exploring investment opportunities and developing clean energy projects in Bangladesh, in line with efforts to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen regional collaboration in the sustainable energy sector.
“In the midst of a global situation full of uncertainty, this collaboration is an important momentum and a strategic step for the development of the renewable energy business in Indonesia while also supporting the sustainable clean energy needs in Bangladesh,” said John.
Furthermore, he said that this cooperation also reflects Bangladesh’s trust in Pertamina NRE’s capabilities and experience in the development of new and renewable energy, including in the management of large-scale solar energy projects at the international level.
Within the scope of the cooperation, both parties will conduct a feasibility study covering technical, market, business, environmental, legal, and project risk aspects.
In addition, the parties will also explore strategic, technical, and commercial cooperation, including the exchange of knowledge and the application of technology related to the development of renewable energy.
John also said that this cooperation reflects Pertamina’s seriousness in the energy sector and efforts to expand the development of green energy in the international arena.
He added that the development of cooperation in Bangladesh also has the potential to strengthen Pertamina NRE’s international portfolio, which has currently shown positive performance in the Philippines.
“Currently, Pertamina NRE has an installed capacity of more than 1 GWp in the Philippines and continues to grow with a target of reaching 2.6 GWp by the end of this year. This concrete achievement is an important asset for Pertamina NRE to develop similar projects in Bangladesh,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of CUSP, Ziaur Rahman, said that the partnership with Pertamina NRE would open up opportunities for broader synergies in the development of solar energy projects in Bangladesh.
“We welcome this collaboration as a strategic step to present innovative, efficient, and impactful clean energy solutions for sustainable development in Bangladesh,” said Ziaur Rahman.
