Pertamina NRE and Bukit Asam Collaborate to Develop Solar Power on Post-Mining Land

Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has officially strengthened its commitment to leading the national energy transition by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) to accelerate the development of solar power plants (PLTS) on post-mining land. The agreement, signed at PTBA’s headquarters in Jakarta, focuses on utilising reclaimed and rehabilitated ex-mining areas as sites for new renewable energy projects.

Corporate Secretary of Pertamina NRE, Sri Nur Hidayati, stated that this synergy is a strategic step to accelerate green energy development while strengthening national energy security. She noted that the energy transition requires collaboration that integrates project development, industrial ecosystem readiness, and increased national capacity to meet the growing demand for clean energy. The partnership is expected to not only produce sustainable green energy projects but also boost the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), strengthen the national industrial ecosystem, and open up green financing opportunities.

PTBA’s Director of Product Downstreaming and Diversification, Turino Yulianto, emphasised the company’s commitment to environmental restoration through the concept of ‘Sustainability Through Technology’. He expressed confidence that Pertamina NRE’s technological expertise can address the challenges of global carbon emission reduction without sacrificing national energy security or economic growth. The collaboration is intended to serve as a tangible role model for state-owned enterprises (BUMN) in optimising national assets, transforming post-mining land into centres for solar power and other renewable energy developments that deliver simultaneous economic, social, and environmental benefits, ultimately supporting Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission targets.
