Pertamina Monitors VLCC Tanker Situation in Strait of Hormuz

PT Pertamina (Persero) Chief Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan has confirmed that the state-owned energy company is continuously monitoring the situation of the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Pertamina Pride, which is currently held in the Strait of Hormuz. Iriawan stated that the monitoring of the vessel, owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), is being conducted in real-time and with full caution. “Meanwhile, for other fleets such as the VLCC Pertamina Pride in the Arabian Gulf, it is currently preparing to move while continuously evaluating security developments, traffic conditions, density, and other risks, as well as considering international recommendations,” Iriawan said in Jakarta on Friday. Based on information from PT PIS, the VLCC Pertamina Pride is in the preparation stage to move. Iriawan added that the PIS crisis centre team is also monitoring the situation around the clock in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Iran. “Hopefully, the VLCC Pertamina Pride can also be released soon and arrive in Indonesia,” he said. Separately, Iriawan confirmed that the vessel Gamsunoro successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday local time. “Alhamdulillah, Gamsunoro has passed through the Strait of Hormuz. We have seen it, it has exited and reached a safe point,” he said. PT PIS previously reported that the Gamsunoro’s 16-hour journey from the Arabian Gulf began on Wednesday at 01:06 Dubai time. The ship sailed at a speed of 7.5 knots and arrived at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz around 13:00 local time. Four hours later, the vessel was declared to have successfully crossed the strait and reached a safe point. Iriawan noted that the Gamsunoro’s successful passage through the Strait of Hormuz is part of PIS’s efforts to maintain shipping operations amidst global geopolitical uncertainty, particularly in one of the world’s most strategic energy distribution routes.
