Pertamina: Manpatu Offshore Platform to Support Mahakam Gas Production
PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has stated that the Manpatu offshore platform is designed to support gas production activities within the Mahakam working area, East Kalimantan Province, to ensure energy sustainability and resilience.
“The installation of the platform jacket and topside for the Manpatu oil and gas field was completed on 27 May 2026,” said PT PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi in Balikpapan on Wednesday, when asked regarding the development of the Manpatu exploration well findings.
The Manpatu gas field is located approximately 35 kilometres from the coast of Balikpapan, with water depths ranging from 50 to 60 metres. The constructed facilities are capable of handling gas flows of up to 8_0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
According to Edi, the Manpatu offshore platform is designed to support production activities and field development in the Mahakam working area, which is projected to increase gas production by up to 80 MMSCFD by 2027, representing approximately 20 per cent of the total production in the Mahakam block.
He added that the Manpatu Project represents the company’s commitment to continuous investment in the oil and gas exploration and exploitation sectors to maintain the sustainability of national energy production. PT PHM continues to invest in exploration activities to discover new resources, increase reserves, and ensure the sustainability of oil and gas production from the Kalimantan region for decades to come.
The company also implements strict supervision, structured risk management, and a safety culture throughout all project stages, alongside Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects.
Currently, the next stages of the Manpatu gas field project are being prepared, including the installation of vertical riser systems, subsea spools, mechanical and electrical connections, and the hook-up of the offshore platform piping systems. The Manpatu Project is one of PT PHM’s roles in strengthening support for national oil and gas production targets while maintaining Indonesia’s energy security.
The Manpatu offshore platform is targeted to reach optimal operation in the first quarter of 2027. The project has received full support from PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), the parent company, as well as the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), according to Setyo Sapto Edi.
