Pertamina maintains availability and smooth distribution of biodiesel in Lampung
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to work to safeguard the availability and smooth distribution of fuel oil, particularly biodiesel, for the public in Lampung Province.
“The rise in biodiesel consumption is partly influenced by the price disparity between subsidised and non-subsidised fuels, which has prompted some members of the public to switch to subsidised fuel,” said Rusminto Wahyudi, Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR at Pertamina Patra Niaga Southern Sumatra Region, in a statement in Bandarlampung on Tuesday.
He explained that in response to the increase in consumption, the average daily distribution of biodiesel in Lampung has been raised gradually. In the January–April 2026 period, average distribution stood at 2,178 kilolitres (KL) per day.
“That figure rose by around 325 KL per day, or 14.9 per cent, to 2,503 KL per day in the May–August 2026 period,” he said.
Entering September 2026, Pertamina increased distribution again by 265 KL per day, or 10.6 per cent, compared with the May–August average. With this addition, the total average daily distribution of biodiesel in Lampung reached 2,768 KL.
Rusminto explained that Pertamina has also taken a number of steps to improve service for the public, including increasing biodiesel supplies to petrol stations with high consumption levels, extending operating hours at stations experiencing congestion, and adding operators serving biodiesel sales to speed up service times.
The increase in biodiesel consumption in Lampung has also been driven by growth in economic activity and public mobility. Lampung’s economic growth was recorded at 5.58 per cent in the first quarter of 2026 and 5.29 per cent in the second quarter, making Lampung the province with the second-highest economic growth on Sumatra.
In addition, tourist visits to Lampung Province grew by 25.55 per cent in the first quarter of 2026. Growth in new vehicles in Lampung over the same period also reached 21 per cent, rising from 32,858 to 39,817 vehicles.
Amid the rising consumption, Pertamina continues to strengthen oversight to ensure subsidised fuel distribution is properly targeted and complies with applicable regulations.
“Measures taken include purchase verification using QR codes, regular spot inspections together with regional governments and law enforcement officials, and sampling checks through CCTV recordings at petrol stations,” Rusminto added.
Pertamina also imposes sanctions on distribution institutions proven to have committed violations. Throughout 2026, a total of 70 sanction letters have been issued to petrol stations as part of efforts to provide guidance and enforce regulations on subsidised fuel distribution.
“We urge the public to use fuel according to its intended purpose and to support the distribution of subsidised fuel so that it becomes increasingly transparent and properly targeted. The public is also expected to buy fuel sensibly according to their needs and not make repeated purchases that could disrupt smooth service for other consumers,” he said.
