Pertamina Lubricants Produces Oil for Electric Vehicles, Here Are the Types
The development of electric vehicles does not necessarily eliminate the need for lubricant products. PT Pertamina Lubricants sees that a number of components in electric and hybrid vehicles still require lubricants.
Unlike cars with internal combustion engines (ICE) or petrol vehicles, pure electric vehicles do not require engine oil to lubricate a conventional engine. However, the vehicle still has mechanical components that require lubricant products.
“Yes, in EVs, although the engine itself does not require lubricant, there are certainly still parts of EV and hybrid vehicles that require lubricant products or their derivatives, such as in the gear, for which Pertamina lubricants also have product variants,” said Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina Lubricants Rika Gresia Wahyudi at the Pertamina Lubricants factory on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
Changes in vehicle technology have caused the need for lubricant products to shift as well. The company no longer only looks at the need for engine oil, but also various supporting components in the electrified vehicle system.
Hybrid vehicles are one market that is also being given attention because they combine electrification technology and combustion engines. This condition means the need for lubricant products remains.
Pertamina Lubricants has therefore prepared product variants that can be used on electrified vehicle components. This step is part of the lubricant business adjustment in facing changes in automotive technology.
“In EVs, although the engine itself does not require lubricant, there are certainly still parts of EV and hybrid vehicles that require lubricant products or their derivatives, such as in the gear, for which Pertamina lubricants also have product variants,” said Rika.
