PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan has reported that the first production test of the Libo SE #86 well in Siak Regency, Riau Province, yielded up to 1,274 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) in early 2026.

General Manager of the Rokan Zone, Andre Wijanarko, said the achievement was exceptional as production results showed a zero per cent water cut, meaning the hydrocarbons extracted were pure oil with no water contamination.

“This achievement is tangible proof that with technological innovation and the hard work of PHR personnel, the Rokan Block still has great potential to support Indonesia’s national energy security,” Andre said in a statement on Monday, 16 February 2026.

He explained that PHR applied precise and innovative technical strategies to maximise potential in the Top Menggala layer at a depth of 5,680 feet, with maximum permeability of 2.2 Darcy.

Key technical factors behind the success included selective perforation, a method of selectively perforating the well casing to ensure oil flows from the most productive depth points in the reservoir. Additionally, ESP pump optimisation was employed, using submersible electric pumps at low flow rates tailored to the well’s optimal production characteristics.

Advanced equipment was also installed, comprising a combination of an Advanced Gas Handler (AGH) on the subsurface pump and a Gas Separator at surface facilities to ensure stable oil flow despite gassy conditions.

“This success is a good start. PHR is committed to continuing to increase national oil and gas production through sustained drilling in the same area. Currently, the field team is moving quickly to drill the Libo SE #88 well at the same wellpad,” Andre said.

According to him, there are four additional wells to be drilled (infill drilling) as a follow-up to the successful drilling of Libo SE #86, with the aim of maximising oil potential in the Libo SE area.

“We hope that going forward, PHR can continue to demonstrate operational reliability whilst maintaining HSE standards for energy security,” he said.
