Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Adds 14 MMSCFD in Gas Production
PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has bolstered the national gas supply following the successful onstreaming of the WPN-6 Platform within the Sisi Nubi Area of Interest (SNB AOI) 1-3-5 project, located in the Sisi Nubi Offshore Field, Mahakam Working Area, East Kalimantan.
This production increase stems from two wells that commenced operations in June 2026, with the initial additional production from the WPN-6 Platform reaching 14 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day).
“The achievement of this project is vital in maintaining the sustainability of oil and gas production from the Kalimantan region, specifically from the Mahakam Working Area, to support the government’s Asta Cita regarding energy self-sufficiency,” said PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi, as quoted in a written statement on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
Setyo noted that the gas production originates from well NB-601, which went onstream on 5 June 2026 with a contribution of 6 MMSCFD. Subsequently, well NB-603 began producing on 8 June 2026, contributing 8 MMSCFD.
He stated that as the wells and production facilities undergo optimisation and stabilisation, NB-601 and NB-603 are projected to be capable of producing up to 20 MMSCFD.
Furthermore, Setyo assessed that the successful onstreaming of WPN-6 marks an important milestone in the development of the SNB AOI 1-3-5 Project. This platform is the fourth facility to successfully begin production out of a total of six platforms planned for the project.
Previously, PHM operated the WPS-4 Platform on 4 December 2025, followed by WPS-5 on 23 February 2026, and WPN-7 on 23 March 2026. This series of achievements demonstrates that field development is proceeding according to target while prioritising safety and operational reliability.
“These achievements are part of the company’s efforts to maintain national oil and gas production, particularly from the Mahakam Working Area,” he said.
Setyo added that support from PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), as the parent company, is a crucial factor in executing upstream oil and gas investment and operational projects that are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulations, while providing added value to both the company and the state.
Additionally, the utilisation of innovation and technology serves as the company’s strategy to maintain production levels amidst the challenges of natural decline in production from oil and gas fields that have entered the mature phase.
“We believe that the application of innovation and technology is a strategic step for the company to continue striving to maintain production levels and to mitigate the rate of natural decline in mature oil and gas fields,” he concluded.
