Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Adds 14 MMSCFD in Gas Production
PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has increased the national gas supply after successfully bringing the WPN-6 Platform online at the Sisi Nubi Area of Interest (SNB AOI) 1-3-5 project in the Sisi Nubi Offshore Field, Mahakam Working Area, East Kalimantan. The additional production comes from two wells that began operating in June 2026, with initial additional output from the WPN-6 Platform reaching 14 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day). “This project achievement is crucial for maintaining the sustainability of oil and gas production from the Kalimantan region, particularly from the Mahakam Working Area, to support the government’s Asta Cita regarding energy self-sufficiency,” said PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi. Setyo stated that the gas production originates from the NB-601 well, which went onstream on 5 June 2026, recording 6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). Subsequently, the NB-603 well began production on 8 June 2026, contributing 8 MMSCFD. He explained that as the optimisation and stabilisation process for the wells and production facilities continues, NB-601 and NB-603 are projected to be able to produce up to 20 MMSCFD of gas. Furthermore, Setyo assessed that the successful onstream of WPN-6 also marks a significant milestone in the development of the SNB AOI 1-3-5 Project. This platform is the fourth facility to successfully produce out of a total of six platforms planned for the project. Previously, PHM had operated the WPS-4 Platform on 4 December 2025, followed by WPS-5 on 23 February 2026, and WPN-7 on 23 March 2026. This series of achievements demonstrates that field development is progressing on target while prioritising safety and operational reliability aspects. “This achievement is part of the company’s efforts to maintain national oil and gas production, especially from the Mahakam Working Area,” he said. Setyo added that support from PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) as the holding company is a crucial factor in implementing upstream oil and gas investment and operational projects that are safe, reliable, compliant with regulations, and provide added value for the company and the state. The utilisation of innovation and technology is also the company’s strategy for maintaining production levels amidst the challenge of natural production decline from oil and gas fields that have entered the mature phase. “We believe that the application of innovation and technology is a strategic step for the company to continuously strive to maintain production levels and curb the rate of natural production decline in mature oil and gas fields,” he stated.
