The life of Ristianti felt like it had collapsed when she lost her job as a teacher. This was compounded by her husband also facing redundancy. To keep the household running, Ristianti started a small-scale cake-selling business, while her husband became an online motorcycle taxi driver.

New hope reignited when she joined UMiMAX, which equipped her with a coffee cart along with business training and mentoring. Now, from a directionless former teacher, she has transformed into an independent ultra-micro entrepreneur with millions of rupiah in turnover, able to secure her children’s education.

Ristianti is one of 168 participants in the Ultra Mikro Pertamina Aksi (UMiMAX) programme who were “graduated” by Pertamina to become ready-to-grow entrepreneurs. The UMiMAX programme is designed to assist economically weak communities and redundancy victims in becoming independent ultra-micro business operators.

Vice President of CSR & SMEPP Management at Pertamina, Rudi Arifianto, revealed that the programme has been running since December 2025 as part of Pertamina’s anniversary celebrations and is the initial group expected to serve as a model for ultra-micro business development.

“Regarding participant profiles, around 75 percent of UMiMAX partners are redundancy victims, while the rest are from economically weak communities. This programme represents Pertamina’s commitment to boosting community economies through business facility grants, training, and business mentoring,” said Rudi, during the UMiMAX participant graduation ceremony at the Pertamina University Auditorium in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/2026).

The UMiMAX programme currently covers six regions: Greater Jakarta, Karawang, Subang, and Bandung. It consists of 65 warmindo (Indomie eatery) businesses, 63 kopling (mobile coffee) businesses, and 40 mini ATM (automated teller machine) businesses.

“Through this programme, participants have recorded an average monthly turnover of around 30 million rupiah, with some achieving profits exceeding 10 million rupiah per month. The total revenue for all participants from January to April 2026 reached 2.75 billion rupiah, booking net profits of up to 858 million rupiah. This positive impact motivates us to further develop the UMiMAX programme,” said Rudi.

Vice Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, added that the Umimax programme is Pertamina’s initiative to empower ultra-micro business actors so they can grow, become independent, and advance.

“Pertamina extends appreciation for the spirit and success of ultra-micro business partners in following the Umimax programme. This graduation is hoped to inspire other business actors to continue developing their knowledge and business capacity to become reliable entrepreneurs,” said Baron.

For 2026, Pertamina will expand the programme’s reach with a target of recruiting up to 1,000 participants across various regions in Indonesia. The main focus remains on areas with high economic vulnerability and low-income communities. Region mapping will be conducted carefully based on national social and economic single data (DTSEN).

One UMiMAX participant, Tasya Putri Nabilah, shared that the programme not only boosts income but also enables her to send her sibling to university.

“I express my thanks to Pertamina; through this programme, I was almost unable to continue my studies. But since joining UMiMAX, I have successfully completed my degree and enrolled my sibling who has just entered university,” said Tasya.
