Pertamina Foundation instils environmental awareness in children from an early age
The Operation Director of Pertamina Foundation, Gusman Adiwardhana, stated in Jakarta on Saturday that the habit of protecting the earth does not emerge on its own, but must be instilled from childhood. In commemoration of National Children’s Day 2026, Pertamina Foundation provided a direct learning experience for early childhood students through educational visits to two of its managed schools, TK Bumi Patra I in Pondok Ranji and TK Bumi Patra II in Cempaka Putih, Jakarta. Under the theme ‘Aku dan Orang Tuaku Peduli Bumi’ (My Parents and I Care for the Earth), the programme was designed to strengthen the synergy between children and parents in adopting environmentally friendly daily habits, such as sorting waste, saving electricity and water, and using reusable containers. The event was attended by 75 students and 77 accompanying parents, with the entire series of activities arranged to be interactive, educational, and enjoyable, carrying the main narrative of ‘Pahlawan Cilik Penyelamat Bumi’ (Little Heroes Saving the Earth). Children were guided to understand their important role as the next generation responsible for preserving the earth through six main activities, including interactive education on sorting organic and inorganic waste using visual media and a relay simulation game sorting waste into three colour-coded containers: green for organic, yellow for inorganic, and red for hazardous waste. One parent, Ibu Upi, expressed her delight at being directly involved, noting that her child could now practise sorting waste and making crafts from dried leaves, rather than just hearing about it from books. Gusman added that this activity is part of Pertamina Foundation’s long-term commitment to managing its fostered schools as spaces that not only excel academically but also build environmental character from an early age. He emphasised that National Children’s Day was the right moment to instil environmental awareness, and the foundation hopes to shape positive habits in children while strengthening the bond between parents and children in adopting a sustainable lifestyle for the future of the earth.
