Jakarta (ANTARA) - Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth M.V. Dumatubun, stated that MT Pagerungan and MT Pangkalan Brandan, built by the national shipyard PT PAL Indonesia, contribute to strengthening national energy distribution.

“MT Pagerungan and MT Pangkalan Brandan are a tangible representation of the nation’s ingenuity, not only strengthening national energy distribution but also demonstrating that Indonesia is capable of building a modern, competitive tanker fleet for both domestic and international needs,” Roberth said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

MT Pagerungan and MT Pangkalan Brandan serve as concrete evidence of the national maritime industry’s capability to produce high-quality tanker vessels to support Indonesia’s energy distribution.

As tankers built by the nation’s own people, MT Pagerungan and MT Pangkalan Brandan each have a carrying capacity of around 25,528 kilolitres of fuel oil (BBM), equivalent to more than 25 million litres of BBM per voyage.

These vessels measure approximately 157.2 metres in length and 27.7 metres in width, with a design specifically engineered for optimal operation in various Indonesian ports as well as international shipping routes.

The large capacity and strategic dimensions make these two ships essential elements in the national energy distribution chain.

In a single voyage, each ship can transport an energy supply equivalent to thousands of land tankers, enabling more efficient distribution to Indonesia’s vast archipelago regions.

MT Pagerungan serves as a domestic general-purpose vessel, handling inter-island BBM distribution from main terminals such as Balongan, Tuban, and Tanjung Wangi to Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, and eastern Indonesia.

Meanwhile, MT Pangkalan Brandan functions as a general-purpose Product International Operation (PIO) vessel, serving energy transportation on international routes, including regional paths like Singapore and Malaysia.

This dual domestic and international role positions the two ships as complementary guardians of national energy distribution.

MT Pagerungan ensures energy supplies reach various parts of the Archipelago, while MT Pangkalan Brandan strengthens cross-border energy logistics connectivity to support national supply stability.

Through the optimisation of this domestically built fleet, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to affirm its commitment to maintaining reliable energy distribution from the west to the east of the Archipelago, while also bolstering Indonesia’s maritime independence.
