Pertamina Explores Strengthening Cooperation with EOG Resources to Boost Oil and Gas Production
Pertamina is exploring ways to strengthen cooperation with the American oil and gas company EOG Resources as a follow-up to their existing collaboration, aimed at boosting national oil and gas production. The meeting between Pertamina’s Deputy CEO, Oki Muraza, and EOG Resources executives, including Joe Korenek (President of EOG International and Vice President International) and Jonathan Chung (Director of International Business Development), focused on opportunities for further development of their ongoing partnership, particularly in non-conventional reservoir development in Indonesia. During the discussions, both parties explored the potential for enhancing technological collaboration to improve reservoir productivity, including the application of multi-stage hydraulic fracturing, horizontal drilling, and fracture design optimisation, which are EOG Resources’ strengths. Oki Muraza stated that this strengthening of cooperation is part of the company’s strategy to increase national oil and gas production. “Pertamina is currently focused on developing existing fields while promoting non-conventional reservoir development. To that end, we continue to strengthen our capabilities, knowledge, and technological mastery to support sustainable production optimisation,” he said, quoted on Friday, 8 May 2026. Furthermore, the meeting also addressed the progress of policy support currently in process in Indonesia to accelerate non-conventional oil and gas development. This policy is expected to create a more attractive investment ecosystem and provide certainty for technology implementation in the field. As a company with extensive experience in developing shale and tight reservoirs, EOG Resources is considered to have relevant capabilities to support Indonesia’s efforts to increase oil and gas production through a technology-based approach and operational efficiency. This exploration of strengthened cooperation represents a strategic step to accelerate the implementation of cutting-edge technology in non-conventional reservoir development, which is known for its high complexity. Through this continued collaboration, Pertamina hopes to expedite the realisation of non-conventional oil and gas resource potential as a new pillar in national production increases, while also strengthening Indonesia’s energy resilience in the future.
