PT Pertamina (Persero) is expanding access to healthcare services for women by handing over one mammography mobile unit to the Indonesian Breast Cancer Foundation (YKPI) on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

The handover, coinciding with Kartini Day commemorations, represents a concrete step to promote early breast cancer detection through more inclusive mobile healthcare services.

The mammography vehicle is the only one in Indonesia operated on a mobile basis, equipped with complete facilities and disability-friendly features, enabling it to reach more women across various regions.

Pertamina’s Deputy Chief Director, Oki Muraza, stated that the assistance forms part of the company’s commitment to supporting women’s health as well as community empowerment.

“This mammography vehicle is expected to reach more areas and encourage Indonesian women to boldly undergo check-ups. This is not merely a symbol but a real effort to provide better and faster healthcare services,” said Oki in a press release received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

YKPI Chair Linda Agum Gumelar welcomed the support. She assessed that the presence of the latest, more advanced, and disability-friendly mammography vehicle is an important step in expanding women’s healthcare access.

Pertamina, together with YKPI, also launched the PinkCheck programme, a campaign for breast cancer early detection awareness. The programme targets 1,000 women for examinations, either through the mobile mammography service or education on self-breast examination (SADARI).

She added that the Kartini Day momentum symbolises the transformation of the spirit of equality into concrete action in fulfilling women’s health rights.

Meanwhile, Pertamina’s Corporate Secretary, Arya Dwi Paramita, explained that this unit is the second mammography vehicle donated by Pertamina, following similar assistance provided in 2014.

Previously, the first mammography vehicle had covered more than 25,000 kilometres and provided free examinations to over 18,200 women.

It should be noted that mammography is an examination method using X-ray that is effective for early breast cancer detection. The examination begins with a clinical check by a doctor, followed by scanning using the mammography device.

“This examination is recommended routinely, especially for women aged 40 and above. Early detection is very important because breast cancer often shows no specific symptoms in the early stages,” said Dr Hardina, who provided outreach during the event.
