PT Pertamina (Persero) has successfully executed its decarbonisation programme, achieving emission reductions above the target set in the Company’s 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKAP). Throughout the first half of 2026, the Pertamina Group’s decarbonisation efforts reduced carbon emissions by 118 per cent above the 2026 target.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, stated that the decarbonisation programme is part of Pertamina’s initiative to implement ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) across all business lines.

“As a world-class energy company, Pertamina is committed to implementing ESG in line with global standards. Pertamina’s decarbonisation is also the Company’s commitment to carrying out the Government’s target of achieving NZE by 2060,” said Muhammad Baron.

Beyond decarbonisation, Baron added, Pertamina is also consistently developing its Low Carbon Business as part of ESG implementation. From January to June 2026, Pertamina’s low-carbon business performance reached 101 per cent, exceeding the 2026 RKAP target. This success demonstrates solid performance in driving low-carbon energy development initiatives.

“This achievement is supported by several key programmes such as bioethanol, biofuel, and energy efficiency, which managed to surpass the set targets,” Baron said.

Other ESG programmes run by Pertamina, including sustainable procurement, sustainability budget tagging, and community empowerment programmes, also showed positive performance. Overall, governance performance managed to exceed the target, reaching 102 per cent.

“This success reflects the effective implementation of programmes, particularly in the aspects of governance, social, and sustainability support systems,” Baron added.

Baron emphasised that Pertamina’s success in implementing ESG in an integrated manner has reaffirmed the company as the world’s number one ESG-ranked company for the Integrated Oil and Gas Sub-Industry. Proudly, Pertamina has also become a reference for other state-owned companies globally in carrying out integrated ESG.

On 24 June 2026, Pertamina received a visit from Malaysia’s Telekom Berhad to observe first-hand the sustainability programmes at Pertamina that are integrated with business strategy, decarbonisation and energy transition approaches, as well as community development practices such as the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB) programme.

As part of a global energy company, Pertamina continues to be active in international forums such as the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) 2026 as a form of global commitment to the outcomes of COP28. Pertamina actively participates in the annual evaluation of carbon emission reduction performance through the OGDC initiative.
