Pertamina EP Prabumulih Adds 2,068 BOPD in Oil Production Potential

PT Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field has added potential oil production of 2,068 barrels per day (BOPD) after successfully drilling the LBK-031 well, the fifth infill development well in the Lembak Structure, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra. General Manager of Pertamina Subholding Upstream Regional 1 Zone 4, Djudjuwanto, stated that the successful drilling is part of the company’s efforts to optimise remaining oil and gas reserves in mature fields through infill well development. The LBK-031 well recorded potential oil production of 2,068 BOPD and gas of 2.68 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) during an initial flow test conducted on 29 June 2026. “The successful development of the LBK-031 well proves that mature fields still hold significant potential to be further developed through innovation, technology, and continuous optimisation,” he said. He explained that the LBK-031 well is located in the Lembak Structure, northeast of Prabumulih City and within Muara Enim Regency. Drilling took 52 days, from 9 May to 29 June 2026. The well development utilised subsurface innovation in the form of High Resolution Stratigraphic Mapping, a method for mapping subsurface rock layers in greater detail to identify hydrocarbon potential in syn-rift deposits above the basement. This approach allows for more precise drilling target determination, increasing the chances of successful well development while optimising remaining reserve potential in the reservoir. In addition to recording additional production potential, the drilling of the LBK-031 well was completed without any workplace accident record, emphasising the implementation of health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) aspects and operational excellence. The LBK-031 well is the fifth infill development well following the discovery of the LKT-01 interfield well by the Subsurface and Development Planning (SSDP) team of Zone 4. The well location is between the Lembak and Tapus Structures. Previously, Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field also successfully developed the LBK-030 well, which recorded initial production potential of 3,073 BOPD and gas of 1.64 MMSCFD. The company next plans to drill the LKT-023 well in the third quarter of 2026. Senior Manager of Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field, Muhammad Luthfi Ferdiansyah, said the company will continue to implement various strategies to maintain oil and gas production, including well optimisation, scheduled well services, and continuous production performance monitoring. “Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field will continue to optimise wells, conduct scheduled well services, and monitor production performance continuously to minimise the natural decline rate as much as possible. With this strategy, the successful development of the LBK-031 well is expected to stabilise, and even increase, oil and gas production achievements,” he said.
