Pertamina EP Develops Innovation for Upstream Oil and Gas Operational Efficiency

PT Pertamina EP is developing the QORD TECH (Quadrant Orifice Meter Diagnostic Technology) innovation to enhance operational reliability in upstream oil and gas, particularly in gas metering systems. The technology is a diagnostic analysis system designed to detect internal conditions of gas metering components without requiring equipment disassembly. At the Oil & Gas Transportation (OGT) Field, Pertamina EP Zone 7 distributes gas to 43 consumer points with a daily product value of US$926.79. Through a sensor-based analysis and system modelling approach, the technology assists operators and technicians in detecting internal component conditions that are not directly visible. QORD TECH was developed to support the company’s digitalisation and innovation in operations, while also enhancing gas measurement reliability in line with oil and gas industry standards. In implementation, the technology successfully reduced orifice gas metering error rates from 0.8% to 0.9% to near-normal levels of 0.1%. In addition to improving measurement accuracy, the innovation generated added value through a company revenue increase of Rp23.8 billion and cost savings of Rp1.4 billion. This brings the total added value to Rp25.2 billion. The development of QORD TECH involved multiple stages, including gas metering system analysis and modelling, sensor and supporting component assembly, and calibration of each sensor to ensure system reliability and optimal performance. ‘QORD TECH was developed to assist in gas metering diagnostics, enabling faster, more accurate processes without equipment disassembly. This innovation not only enhances metering system reliability but also adds value through improved operational efficiency and company performance optimisation,’ said Kuwat in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. QORD TECH has also received internal recognition through the Technical Guideline for the Use of Portable QORD TECH – Quadrant Orifice Meter Diagnostic Technology, with reference number TKPA No. D04-014/PEP80000/2025-S9. Furthermore, the innovation won a Platinum Award in the Best Project Collaboration category at the Upstream Improvement & Innovation Award 2025.
