Pertamina Ensures Fuel Distribution Continues After 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake in Palu
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sulawesi has confirmed that energy distribution operations in Central Sulawesi are continuing as normal after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Sigi Regency on Tuesday at 11.27 WITA. The quake was centred at coordinates 1.05 South and 120.18 East at a depth of 10 kilometres, with no tsunami potential and no reported aftershocks affecting energy distribution facilities in the region.
Sales Branch Manager for Sulteng I Fuel, Made Bilan Asasia, stated that Pertamina immediately conducted checks and monitoring of all distribution outlets following the earthquake. “Monitoring results show that all petrol stations and distribution outlets we oversee are still operating normally. So far, there have been no reports of damage or operational disruptions impacting energy distribution to the public,” Made said in a press release received in Palu.
Made added that fuel and LPG stock levels in Central Sulawesi are safe and sufficient to meet public needs. The distribution process from fuel terminals and LPG facilities is also running smoothly, ensuring energy supply is maintained across all service areas.
As a precautionary measure, Pertamina has instructed all distribution outlets to continue operations in accordance with applicable safety standards, conduct regular checks of facilities, and immediately report any damage or conditions that could disrupt services. Coordination with local government, relevant agencies, and other stakeholders is also ongoing to ensure field conditions remain safe and to anticipate possible aftershocks.
Area Manager for Communication, Relations, and CSR at Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sulawesi, Lilik Hardiyanto, emphasised that the safety of the public, workers, and partners is the primary concern in any emergency situation. “We continue to monitor developments together with relevant agencies and ensure the operational readiness of energy distribution in Central Sulawesi is maintained. Pertamina also reminds all distribution outlets to increase vigilance and follow safety procedures diligently,” he said.
Lilik also urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying of fuel or LPG. “Fuel and LPG stocks are safe and distribution is running smoothly. The public need not worry and are advised to purchase energy products as needed so that services and distribution remain optimal for everyone,” he added, expressing hopes for the safety and well-being of those affected by the earthquake.
