Pertamina Encourages Younger Generation to Understand Dual Growth Strategy and Energy Transition
PT Pertamina (Persero) has highlighted the issues of energy security and energy transition during the IdeaFest 2026 event. Addressing the younger generation, who play a vital role in shaping Indonesia’s future, Pertamina introduced its Dual Growth Strategy during a session held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, 4 September 2026.
Pertamina’s Corporate Secretary, Arya Dwi Paramita, explained that the Dual Growth Strategy is the company’s approach to strengthening existing energy businesses while simultaneously developing low-carbon businesses as new sources of growth. According to him, forums such as IdeaFest serve as essential spaces to broaden the insights of the youth regarding energy challenges, while encouraging the emergence of ideas and innovations to meet future energy demands.
Arya explained that as the national energy company, Pertamina holds a strategic role in maintaining Indonesia’s energy security. A significant challenge remains that current national energy consumption is higher than domestic production capacity, meaning a portion of requirements must still be met through imports.
“We have been importing for a long time. This means our consumption is higher than our national production. Consequently, we need to bring in oil and gas supplies from other countries to meet domestic needs,” Arya stated in a release on Saturday, 5 September 2026.
According to Arya, this condition is a challenge that must be addressed by strengthening domestic production and developing new energy sources. Therefore, Pertamina is implementing the Dual Growth Strategy with two parallel focuses: optimising existing businesses to meet public energy needs and developing low-carbon businesses for the future.
“To meet current needs, we must maintain production security so that the public continues to receive fuel. On the other hand, we are also building low-carbon businesses and renewable energy,” he added.
In terms of low-carbon business, Pertamina continues to develop various renewable energy potentials and low-carbon technologies, including geothermal, solar energy, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). One of the innovations developed is the utilisation of used cooking oil (UCO) as a feedstock for SAF. The collected used cooking oil is processed at the Pertamina Cilacap Refinery along with other supporting raw materials to produce low-carbon aviation fuel.
