PT Pertamina (Persero) is promoting a culture of energy conservation internally and encouraging the public to participate in using energy more wisely. Pertamina’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, stated that efficiency measures within the company are being implemented amid geopolitical conflicts impacting the global energy supply chain.

“A collective movement to save energy is increasingly necessary to support the government’s efforts in maintaining energy sustainability amid the current global geopolitical dynamics,” Baron said in an official statement on Saturday, 28 March 2026.

Baron emphasised that using energy wisely, particularly fuels like BBM and LPG, has become an urgent initiative. This effort aligns with recent directives from President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia to mitigate the war in the Middle East, which is affecting the world’s energy supply routes.

Internally at Pertamina, the company is saving energy by encouraging employees to use public transport. Pertamina provides shuttle bus services from its offices to public transport locations such as stations, bus stops, and others. This facility makes it easier for employees to access public transport like the commuter line train.

Not only in Jakarta, access to mass transportation is also practised in various Pertamina work units in the regions, for shared services to housing complexes or other strategic gathering points.

Energy savings are also implemented in the office environment. Baron stated that employees are encouraged to turn off lights and electrical equipment when not in use. Office building designs that maximise the use of glass also allow for the utilisation of natural light, thereby reducing electricity consumption during the day.

On the operational side, this state-owned enterprise is also utilising renewable energy through the installation of solar panels at several petrol stations as well as operational assets and offices. Pertamina is also continuing to develop transition energy programmes for the public. Through the Desa Energi Berdikari programme, which is currently available in 252 locations, Pertamina helps communities utilise new renewable energy independently.

Quoting Trading Economics, the Brent crude oil futures price rose above US$111 per barrel on Friday, 27 March 2026. Brent prices reached the highest level since June 2022 due to new disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. As is known, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared that the waterway, through which around 20 per cent of the world’s energy supply passes, is closed to all ships that do not have explicit permission from Tehran.
