PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (Pertamina Drilling) has partnered with ELSA Business to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI)-based English language learning programme called Global Language Operations for Business in Energy (GLOBE). The programme, launched on 26 June 2026, is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen employee communication competencies to support business expansion in the global energy market.

The collaboration comes amid the energy industry’s growing need for cross-border cooperation, whether in project development, technology transfer, or partnerships with international counterparts. In this context, the ability to communicate in English is considered a crucial competency that complements the technical expertise of professionals.

Pertamina Drilling President Director Avep Disasmita stated that foreign language proficiency has become a necessity for a company that is continuously expanding its presence in international markets. He noted that the use of AI in the GLOBE programme is expected to accelerate the improvement of human resource competencies.

“GLOBE is a strategic step to build human resources who are not only technically excellent but also possess a strong foundation in global communication. With the support of AI technology, the learning process becomes more adaptive, effective, and relevant to international business needs,” Avep said in a statement.

The GLOBE programme utilises ELSA Business’s AI technology to deliver a more personal and adaptive learning experience. Through the AI Learning Agent feature, participants receive real-time feedback on their speaking skills, pronunciation evaluation, and a learning pathway tailored to their ability level and job requirements in the energy industry.

This approach allows participants to learn independently anytime and anywhere, while also boosting their confidence in using English for various professional situations, from technical discussions and project presentations to collaboration with international partners.

Pertamina Drilling Vice President of Human Capital, Abimanyu Suryadi, said the application of AI in GLOBE is part of the company’s talent development transformation towards a more modern digital learning system.

“GLOBE is not just a language learning programme, but an AI-based learning ecosystem capable of adapting materials to the needs of each participant. We want Pertamina Drilling’s officers to be more confident in communicating in international environments while also becoming more familiar with using AI technology as part of competency improvement and work productivity,” said Abimanyu.

Pertamina Drilling stated that the programme is part of the company’s commitment to utilising AI technology to develop human resources who are adaptive, globally competitive, and supportive of the company’s vision as a world-class drilling service provider.

Meanwhile, ELSA Business Indonesia Country Director Yasser Muhammad Syaiful assessed that communication skills have now become a strategic competency amidst increasing global collaboration in the energy sector.

“With the rise of cross-border collaboration in the energy industry, communication skills have become a strategic competency that complements technical excellence. Through GLOBE, we aim to help Pertamina Drilling’s talent build confidence in communication with AI support, so they are better prepared to collaborate, seize global opportunities, and create value for the company,” Yasser said.

ELSA Business is an AI-based English learning platform with voice recognition technology that has been used by more than 1,300 organisations across various countries. The platform provides over 1,200 learning materials to help users improve their English pronunciation and professional communication skills.
