Pertamina distributes food aid to flood-affected residents in Langkat

Medan (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu Field has distributed social assistance in the form of food supplies to residents affected by flooding in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra.

“This food aid is an initial step to ensure the safety and fulfillment of the basic needs of the residents,” said Edwin Susanto, Field Manager of Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu, in a statement received in Medan on Thursday.

Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu Field, which is part of Pertamina Subholding Upstream Regional 1 Zone 1 (PHR Zone 1), always prioritises humanitarian values and social concern for communities within its operational areas.

“We express our condolences to the residents facing this disaster. Therefore, our team is moving quickly to assist the community,” he added.

The Head of Lama Baru Village, Kursi Ginting, expressed appreciation for the management and emergency response team of Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu Field. For him, the energy company demonstrated genuine care for residents during the disaster.

“The logistical aid is very useful and directly addresses the urgent needs of our residents affected by the floods,” he said.

At least three districts in Langkat Regency have been submerged by floods due to high rainfall, which caused several rivers in the area to overflow.

The Acting Head of the Langkat Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ansyari, stated that the heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers caused river embankments to breach at several points.

These conditions have resulted in flooding across at least three districts, namely Batang Sarangan, Padang Tualang, and Tanjung districts.
