Banten, CNBC Indonesia – PT Pertamina (Persero) has identified the potential crude oil reserves, particularly non-conventional oil and gas (MNK) or ‘not conventional oil’. The oil-in-place potential amounts to 11 billion barrels. Deputy President Director Oki Muraza said the company is working to build a supporting ecosystem so that the large potential can be produced on a massive scale soon. ‘So the good news is that recently we have 11 billion barrels of oil in place for non-conventional,’ he said at the IPA Convex event, at ICE BSD, Wednesday (20/5/2026). The development of non-conventional oil and gas is seen as requiring attractive fiscal policy support from the government to attract investors. In addition, he said they would need collaboration with global oilfield service companies to replicate the success of development in areas such as the Permian Basin, United States. ‘Our current homework, essentially, is how we can advocate to our government to have fiscal policies, and then we try to invite many service-company partners to create the ecosystem,’ he added. Besides pursuing non-conventional oil and gas potential, the company also remains focused on managing mature fields through high-tech interventions. One of its main targets is the Minas Field, which is reported to still hold substantial reserve potential under enhanced oil recovery schemes. ‘We still have around 4 billion barrels in one Minas field; this is another homework we are pursuing,’ he concluded.
