Pertamina Deputy President Director Outlines Efforts to Support National Energy Security

PT Pertamina (Persero) serves as a vital link in maintaining national energy security, according to Pertamina Deputy President Director Oki Muraza. He shared these insights during a panel discussion organised by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) in Jakarta, titled ‘Dignified and Beneficial BPK: BPK Supports Energy Security Programmes’.

Through its dual-growth strategy, Pertamina is working to continuously strengthen existing businesses by increasing upstream production and expanding downstream capacity. Furthermore, Pertamina is bolstering energy security through the development of low-carbon businesses, Oki stated during his presentation, ‘The Role of Pertamina in Supporting Energy Security in the Oil and Gas Sector’.

Oki emphasised that these efforts align with the ‘Asta Cita’ objectives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, specifically regarding energy self-sufficiency, downstreaming and industrialisation to increase domestic value-add, and economic equality and poverty alleviation. As a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN), Pertamina plays a central role in these national goals.

Oki also noted that Pertamina is currently managing 17 clusters of National Strategic Projects (PSN). The company is executing 10 downstreaming projects, which include refineries and processing, fuel terminals, biofuel and bioethanol projects, as well as the conversion of coal to Dimethyl Ether (DME). To accelerate these efforts, Oki highlighted the necessity of collaboration with stakeholders, including the BPK.

During the session, Oki presented Pertamina’s recent achievements and successes. In the upstream sector, Pertamina currently produces approximately 1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). In the refining sector, the company maintains a processing capacity of 1 million barrels per day. In the retail sector, Pertamina operates a network of over 15,000 points, supported by approximately 33,000 km of gas pipelines.

Looking ahead, Pertamina continues to strive towards strengthening fuel storage security. Other future focuses include the development of bioethanol and the ambitious goal of becoming a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) hub through the ‘PertaminaSAF’ product, Oki concluded.
