Pertamina Deputy CEO Highlights Urgency of Collaboration to Strengthen Energy Security
PT Pertamina (Persero) Deputy CEO Oki Muraza has emphasised the importance of synergy among the company’s sub-holdings and business units to support national energy security, especially given the high energy demand on Java. The message was delivered during a Management Walkthrough (MWT) to several of Pertamina’s operational areas in Java, including the Early Production Facilities (EPF) Akasia Prima Structure (AKP) at the Jatibarang Field operated by PT Pertamina EP, the Onshore Processing Facility (OPF) Balongan operated by PHE Offshore North West Java (ONWJ), and the Pertamina Patra Niaga Balongan Refinery.
“All entities within Pertamina must move in the spirit of One Pertamina so that operational challenges can be resolved together. Pertamina is one unified entity. If there is a problem, we solve it together,” Oki said on Thursday (11/6/2026).
He assessed that Java is the region with the largest energy needs in Indonesia, requiring strong collaboration from the upstream to the downstream sector. This synergy is necessary not only to increase oil production but also to ensure the supply of natural gas for the public and industry is maintained.
“The Java cluster has very large energy needs. Therefore, all lines must synergise, from upstream to downstream, both in meeting the needs for oil and natural gas,” he stated.
The Balongan Refinery is Pertamina’s most complex refinery. With a processing capacity of 150 thousand barrels per day, the facility is capable of producing high-quality products, with its fuel production primarily aimed at meeting the needs of West Java.
Meanwhile, the Jatibarang field is part of the strategic upstream oil and gas assets of Pertamina EP, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, with an operational area covering three regencies: Indramayu, Cirebon, and Majalengka. The development of the Akasia Prima structure in this field is one of the steps to strengthen the achievement of national energy security.
The Balongan OPF is a gas processing facility located in Balongan, Indramayu Regency. Operating since 2014, this facility processes natural gas produced from PHE ONWJ’s offshore fields before it is distributed to consumers. The facility has a gas processing capacity of up to 40 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
Oki also reminded staff of the importance of accelerating the execution of the company’s planned work programmes. He noted that various targets and strategies have been formulated, so all Pertamina personnel need to focus on implementation and completing tasks in stages.
“The targets are there, the work programmes are there, the strategies are also there. There are many things we can work on together and complete one by one,” he said.
Amid ongoing global uncertainty, Oki believes that optimising domestic energy potential is a crucial step to maintain energy security while supporting the company’s business sustainability. He affirmed that Pertamina has a responsibility to continuously improve the utilisation of domestic energy resources to meet national needs.
“In an uncertain situation like this, we must maximise all potential within the country. This is very important because we have the responsibility to safeguard Pertamina while strengthening national energy security,” Oki said.
Through the Management Walkthrough activity, Pertamina seeks to strengthen collaboration across functions and sub-holdings, accelerate the resolution of operational challenges, and optimise national energy production to support public needs and Indonesia’s economic growth.
