Jakarta — PT Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Chief Executive Mars Ega Legowo Putra has stated that the company already secured energy procurement prior to the escalation of Iran-United States tensions in the Middle East.

He explained that Pertamina Patra Niaga conducts energy procurement through two distinct mechanisms: long-term contracts and spot market purchases. “The majority are long-term rather than spot purchases — approximately 90 to 95 per cent is already long-term. We had already locked in procurement before the geopolitical situation in the Middle East unfolded,” Mars Ega said on Monday, 16 March 2026.

He added that Pertamina Patra Niaga is currently monitoring deliveries related to these procurement arrangements as part of the company’s risk mitigation strategy. “We prepared for March starting back in January. Since January, Pertamina Patra Niaga has been planning product supply for March, both from our own refineries and what we need to import,” he stated.

Consequently, Mars Ega continued, the company does not face sudden procurement needs in March. The arrangements made in January undergo further review in February. “We procure again in March, replenishing supplies. So when we report today that stockpiles exceed 21 days, there will be continuous rolling with periodic top-ups,” he explained.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, has stated that Indonesia does not import refined petroleum products from the Middle East. He noted that Indonesia imports crude oil from the Middle East at 20 per cent of total imports, whilst refined fuel is sourced from Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia.

Bahlil reported that domestic demand for refined petroleum products such as diesel is now met from domestic production. This is supported by biodiesel blending programmes and the operational Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project in Balikpapan. He stated that the only refined petroleum product Indonesia continues to import from other countries is petrol, sourced from Malaysia and Singapore.
