Pertamina Commissioner Stresses Adaptive Leadership and Workplace Safety During East Java Visit
Pertamina’s Chief Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan conducted a series of strategic working visits in East Java on Wednesday (1/7/2026). During the agenda, Iriawan stressed two crucial pillars for the corporation’s future: building a collaborative and adaptive leadership culture amidst the energy transition, and implementing workplace safety as an absolute priority.
Commencing his tour, Iriawan attended a Sharing Session with approximately 200 Pertamina officers from various Pertamina Group entities at the PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Jatimbalinus office in Surabaya. The forum aimed to align the vision of company personnel in facing the dynamics of the global energy industry, influenced by the energy transition, technological disruption, and increasing stakeholder expectations.
Iriawan reminded his ranks to be prepared for the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) era. ‘Leadership is not about a position on paper, but about action, integrity, and how we protect the team in the field. A leader must be present, set an example, and be a solution for the organisation,’ asserted the former Acting Governor of West Java.
Following the managerial agenda in Surabaya, Iriawan proceeded with a Management Walkthrough to the Production Unit Gresik of PT Pertamina Lubricants. He stressed that the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) culture must become the company’s operational DNA, not merely an administrative formality.
Management has established three main pillars of safety that must be met without compromise. ‘No production or sales target exceeds the value of a worker’s life. Safety is the highest moral responsibility,’ Iriawan stated.
During the visit, President Director of PT Pertamina Lubricants, Sigit Pranowo, also presented the readiness of downstream distribution infrastructure. This distribution strength serves as the spearhead in maintaining product reliability in both domestic and global markets. Special appreciation was also given to the Gresik Lube Oil Blending Plant as a sophisticated facility that guarantees product quality and company profitability.
