Pertamina commends crew dedication navigating Strait of Hormuz
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina International Shipping President Director Surya Tri Harto expressed his highest appreciation to all crew members who were deemed to have managed the situation calmly and professionally amid the escalating conflict in the Strait of Hormuz.
“This success is not only about operational discipline, but also about humanity. Since the ships entered the Gulf region, we have continuously monitored the crew’s condition. The safety of all crew members has always been our priority, even before cargo and operational activities,” Surya said in a statement confirmed by ANTARA from Jakarta on Thursday.
He specifically urged all crew to always prioritise safety while on duty. “To us, you are heroes. Under normal conditions, seafarers already have to face waves, wind and the ocean. In the Strait of Hormuz, you face far greater risks,” Surya said.
He added that he hoped all crew would always be granted safety on every subsequent voyage and that the global situation would improve soon.
Meanwhile, PT Pertamina International Shipping President Commissioner Anwar Saadi also expressed gratitude that all crew members managed to pass through the situation safely. “Over the past few months, we have been following developments and were very concerned about the crew’s safety. We are grateful to see all crew of Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro in good health and able to smile again,” Anwar said.
He also conveyed his appreciation to the captains and all crew members who demonstrated patience, professionalism, and high dedication in maintaining the safety of the ships, crew, and cargo while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
After successfully passing through the Gulf region, both ships are focusing on restoring fleet performance to support subsequent voyages. MT Gamsunoro has undergone hull cleaning, which will boost the ship’s speed. Meanwhile, Pertamina Pride is carrying out underwater hull cleaning as part of preparations for its next voyage.
Two Pertamina ships had been delayed in the Strait of Hormuz since March 2026. The vessels are Gamsunoro and Pertamina Pride. The Gamsunoro successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz on 25 June and has now returned to serving third-party customers in Singapore waters. Meanwhile, the VLCC Pertamina Pride successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz on 8 July and arrived safely in Cilacap waters on 24 July.
