Pertamina Chief Commissioner Iwan Bule: The Nation's Best Investment is in People
PT Pertamina (Persero) Chief Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan has asserted that the best investment Indonesia can make today is in its people. He stated that the quality of human resources will be the decisive factor in the nation’s competitiveness amidst the global energy transition, rapid technological advancements, and increasingly fierce economic competition worldwide.
The statement was made by Iriawan during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and a Cooperation Agreement between PT Pertamina (Persero) and the Ministry of Manpower in Jakarta on Monday, 22 June 2026. The collaboration is focused on strengthening vocational training in the field of Occupational Health and Safety as part of efforts to build superior human resources, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision.
“As the only Indonesian company consistently ranked in the Fortune Global 500, Pertamina recognises that success is determined not only by the size of its assets or the sophistication of its technology, but by the quality of its human resources—superior, adaptive, and competitive. Therefore, the best investment we can make is an investment in people,” said Iriawan.
The man familiarly known as Iwan Bule assessed that the collaboration between Pertamina and the Ministry of Manpower carries strategic, even geopolitical, significance. He noted that amidst the changing global energy landscape towards a low-carbon economy, nations that will win the competition are those possessing high-quality human resources and continuously enhancing their competencies.
He added that strengthening workforce capacity is an urgent necessity given Pertamina’s growing role in safeguarding national energy security. Consequently, competency development and a culture of occupational safety must become inseparable parts of the company’s transformation.
The partnership between Pertamina and the Ministry of Manpower is a concrete implementation of President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, which places human resource development as a key national priority under the fourth Asta Cita.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Minister of Manpower Prof. Yassierli, Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower Dr. Cris Kuntadi, Director General of Vocational Training and Productivity Development Darmawansyah, Pertamina Commissioner Laode Sulaeman, Pertamina Vice President Director Oki Muraza, Pertamina Human Resources Director Andy Arvianto, as well as directors from Pertamina holding and its subholdings.
