Pertamina Bans Repeated Pertalite Purchases for Resale
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Central Java and Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) regional unit has banned repeated purchases of Pertalite fuel at petrol stations for resale to consumers.
Taufiq Kurniawan, the unit’s Area Manager for Communications, Relations and CSR, said in Yogyakarta on Thursday that queues for Pertalite had recently formed at petrol stations because some consumers were switching from Pertamax to the subsidised fuel.
“We will also map several petrol stations that are prone to queues, and we have issued an appeal prohibiting repeated purchases,” Taufiq said.
He said the restriction on repeated Pertalite purchases applies both to purchases using jerrycans and to vehicles with large-capacity tanks, to prevent public discontent at the moment.
“People are queuing in the heat, and it is unfair for them to be in line alongside those making repeated purchases to resell the fuel,” he said.
At petrol stations where queues have become excessively long, Pertamina will take specific measures. It hopes to receive support from local governments to ensure a more comfortable experience for consumers.
“We will map the petrol stations and take certain steps if queues become excessively long, in coordination with local governments. We will continue to coordinate and provide updates,” he said.
He said Pertalite consumption had risen by 7 per cent, so the increase in demand had inevitably led to more vehicles queuing at petrol stations.
Nevertheless, Pertamina guarantees that supplies remain secure. Pertalite stocks are equivalent to seven times normal consumption, diesel to 14 times, Pertamax to 19 times and Pertamax Turbo to 34 times normal consumption.
“These figures show that supplies are secure despite the queues. The public need not worry and should continue to buy according to their needs. The fuel will be available, with supplies guaranteed to meet people’s daily consumption,” he said.
