Pertamina Balikpapan Refinery and Pertamina Trans Kontinental Forge Infrastructure Management Partnership

PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) and PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding Port Management Bundling, covering port services, marine, and construction to support a Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility with a capacity of 320,000 Deadweight Tonnage (DWT) and a jetty. This strengthening of synergy represents an effort to develop integrated and reliable national energy infrastructure management in the maritime sector. The signing took place in Balikpapan on Friday, 5 June 2026, by KPB President Director Bambang Harimurti and PTK Acting President Director Eko Cahyadi.

Through this cooperation, PTK will support various operational activities at KPB’s port and marine terminal facilities. This support ranges from guiding the berthing and unberthing of vessels at the SPM, operational services at the New Jetty 6A, to routine inspection and maintenance of facilities. This strategic collaboration is expected to ensure all infrastructure operates safely, smoothly, and reliably to support the smooth distribution of crude oil and refined products.

KPB President Director Bambang Harimurti stated, “The Balikpapan Pertamina Refinery has been greatly assisted by the services provided by PTK thus far. This synergy is expected to continue to the next stage, resulting in service continuity and an increasingly harmonious cooperation.”

Entering the initial operational phase of the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) Project, the integration of supporting infrastructure is becoming critical. One of the strategic assets ready for operation is the 320,000 DWT SPM mooring facility at Lawe-Lawe. This facility is specifically designed to serve giant tankers carrying crude oil, which is then channelled via pipelines to the Lawe-Lawe Crude Terminal to supply feedstock for the Balikpapan Refinery.

PTK Acting President Director Eko Cahyadi explained that in this collaboration, PTK will provide long-term port and marine services. The services are expected to support vessel berthing and crude oil transfer processes more effectively and efficiently. He added that this Pertamina Group synergy is a vital part of maintaining the reliability of the refinery’s operational supply chain while strengthening national energy security.
