Pertamina and POSCO Strengthen Low-Carbon Technology Collaboration

PT Pertamina (Persero) is strengthening its cooperation with international partners through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with POSCO International Corporation for the development of low-carbon energy solutions in Indonesia and South Korea, on Thursday, 2 April 2026. The MoU was signed by the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, and the Chief Executive Officer of POSCO International, Kye-In Lee, on 1 April 2026 local time in South Korea. This agreement represents a strategic step for both companies in exploring the development and potential application of low-carbon technologies. Through this collaboration, Pertamina and POSCO International will explore various opportunities, particularly in the development of Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), blue hydrogen and ammonia development, as well as the New and Renewable Energy (EBT) sector. The signing of this MoU is also part of the visit by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to South Korea to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, stated that this collaboration is an important step in accelerating the development of a low-carbon technology ecosystem in Indonesia. “This collaboration is an important step for Pertamina to accelerate the development of a low-carbon technology ecosystem in Indonesia, utilising CCS/CCUS technologies, blue hydrogen development, to new and renewable energy, which is expected to support emission reduction targets while opening up carbon economic opportunities in the future,” he said. This cooperation includes studies on technical aspects in the low-carbon technology chain, as well as non-technical studies to support the optimal implementation of these technologies. The synergy between the two companies is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation in achieving carbon emission reduction targets while supporting the government’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets. As a leader in energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target through various programmes that contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
