REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEOUL – PT Pertamina (Persero) is strengthening its cooperation with international partners in developing low-carbon energy solutions through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with POSCO International Corporation.

This agreement represents a strategic step for both companies to explore the development and potential application of low-carbon technologies in Indonesia and South Korea.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, and Kye-In Lee, Chief Executive Officer of POSCO International, in South Korea on Wednesday (1/4/2026) local time. Through this MoU, the two companies will explore potential collaborations in the development and application of low-carbon technologies.

In particular, this includes the development of Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), the development of blue hydrogen/ammonia, and potential cooperation in the new and renewable energy (EBT) sector.

The signing of the MoU is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to South Korea as part of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

According to the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, through this cooperation, Pertamina continues to strengthen global collaboration in developing low-carbon technologies while supporting efforts to accelerate a sustainable energy transition and enhance national energy resilience.

“This collaboration is an important step for Pertamina to accelerate the development of a low-carbon technology ecosystem in Indonesia by utilising CCS/CCUS technologies, developing blue hydrogen, and new renewable energy, which is expected to support emission reduction targets while opening up future carbon economy opportunities,” said Simon.

The cooperation encompasses studies on the technical aspects of the low-carbon technology chain, as well as non-technical studies for the application of these low-carbon technologies.

The synergy between these two companies is expected to enhance bilateral cooperation in achieving carbon emission reduction targets, thereby supporting the government’s target for Net Zero Emission (NZE).

As a leading company in the energy transition sector, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target and continues to promote programmes that directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

All these efforts align with Pertamina’s transformation oriented towards governance, public service, business sustainability, and the environment, by applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all business lines and operations.
