Washington DC — PT Pertamina (Persero) has signed a memorandum of understanding on oilfield recovery cooperation with Halliburton. The signing was carried out by Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri and President Director of PT Halliburton Indonesia Ankush Balla, witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday (18 February).

The agreement forms part of eleven investment memoranda of understanding concluded between the Indonesian Government and business leaders during the Indonesia-US Business Summit held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC on Thursday (18 February) local time.

The partnership represents a concrete step in strengthening strategic collaboration between Indonesia and the United States, particularly in the energy sector.

During the US-Indonesia Exclusive Business Roundtable, President Prabowo expressed strong optimism about the future of Indonesia-US relations. He affirmed that his government had brought a strategic agenda to the visit, including the finalisation of a major trade agreement between the two nations.

"I am also here to finalise a major trade agreement between our two countries. We have been negotiating very intensively over the past few months, and I believe we have reached a solid agreement on many issues," said President Prabowo.

According to the President, the trade agreement is expected to serve as a primary driver for strengthening the Indonesia-US economic partnership. Various important agreements have been signed between both government institutions and business entities of the two countries, including follow-up measures on trade balance issues.

"I look forward to this trade agreement as a major boost for the continuation of economic partnership and economic cooperation between the United States and Indonesia," he said.

Echoing this sentiment, Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri affirmed that the cooperation with Halliburton is a strategic step to strengthen national energy resilience through the optimisation of domestic oil and gas production.

"Oilfield recovery is expected to help Pertamina maximise national oil production, particularly from domestic oil and gas fields that have experienced natural production decline," said Simon.

Simon added that the collaboration focuses not only on increasing production but also on technology transfer, human resource capability development, and the implementation of globally standardised operational practices. He noted that synergy with an internationally reputable partner would accelerate the implementation of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology and more efficient and sustainable drilling solutions.

"This cooperation is part of Pertamina's ongoing transformation to maintain upstream production sustainability, increase national lifting, and ensure energy availability for the public and industry. With the support of global technology and experience, we are optimistic that mature fields can once again make a significant contribution to national production," Simon affirmed.

Through this agreement, Pertamina reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government's agenda of strengthening national energy resilience and sovereignty, whilst expanding strategic international partnerships that deliver added value to the Indonesian economy.
