JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) has partnered with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) to develop carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology. The technology will be developed in Pertamina’s upstream oil and gas operations. The collaboration was formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between PHE, PT Pertamina (Persero), and ERIA. The signing took place during the IPA Convex 2026 event at ICE BSD, Tangerang, on Thursday, 21 May 2026. The move is seen as strengthening Indonesia’s role in regional energy transition. “This collaboration is part of Pertamina’s strategic move to bolster its low-carbon business portfolio while supporting national decarbonisation targets,” he said. The agreement opens strategic collaboration opportunities between PHE, Pertamina, and ERIA to support energy transition. The focus of the collaboration is on developing a low-carbon energy ecosystem in Indonesia, particularly through CCS/CCUS technology. The partnership includes technology development studies, optimisation of existing assets and facilities, and strengthening commercial and regulatory aspects. The initiative is prepared to support the implementation of various decarbonisation efforts. “Through this collaboration, Pertamina aims to build an integrated CCS/CCUS ecosystem to support the sustainability of the energy industry in the future,” said Oki. “We hope this partnership will accelerate the identification of potential, ecosystem development, and implementation of low-carbon projects that add value to the sustainability of the national energy industry,” said Hermansyah.
