Pertamina continues to strengthen its commitment to maintaining national energy resilience while promoting the transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. At the same time, Pertamina is implementing carbon emission reductions across all business lines in support of the government’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) target and energy efficiency initiatives. By February 2026, Pertamina recorded a realised emission reduction of 354,609 tonnes of CO₂e, or 112% of the target for the period, as part of the company’s decarbonisation efforts. Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, stated that this success is inseparable from Pertamina’s consistent implementation of various energy efficiency programmes across all business lines, from upstream to downstream. “This realisation of decarbonisation that exceeds the target is proof that Pertamina continues to move towards cleaner energy. However, energy sustainability also requires active public participation through thrifty and wise energy usage behaviour,” Baron said in a statement on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Pertamina emphasises that efforts to maintain national energy resilience are not only carried out through operational optimisation and technological innovation but also through education and calls to the public to use energy efficiently and appropriately. According to Baron, wise energy usage behaviour has a significant impact on maintaining energy supply stability, especially amid global dynamics affecting the energy sector. “Wise energy usage, such as using fuel according to needs and utilising energy efficiently, is a real contribution from the public to maintaining national energy resilience while supporting the 2060 Net Zero Emission target,” he added. In terms of performance, Pertamina’s decarbonisation achievements are driven by contributions from all subholdings. The Upstream Subholding recorded the highest performance, exceeding targets, followed by the Downstream and Gas Subholding, which also showed positive performance through various operational efficiency and energy optimisation programmes. Meanwhile, other subholdings such as Pertamina New & Renewable Energy and Integrated Marine Logistics continue to strengthen the implementation of decarbonisation programmes through energy efficiency, operational electrification, and the development of new renewable energy. In addition to running various emission reduction programmes, Pertamina continues to refine its Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets, including strengthening internal policies such as the application of internal carbon pricing, developing low-carbon projects, and integrating sustainability aspects into the company’s business strategy. With positive achievements at the beginning of 2026, Pertamina is optimistic about achieving its annual decarbonisation targets while strengthening its role as a national energy company that is not only reliable and affordable but also increasingly environmentally friendly. Pertamina targets an emission reduction of 1,962,156 tonnes of CO₂e in 2026. Various strategic programmes for emission reduction and energy efficiency continue to be implemented across all Subholdings. In Upstream, Pertamina is implementing fuel gas efficiency through the optimisation of gas turbine operations with an efficiency of 12 MMSCFD. Meanwhile, in the Downstream Subholding, Pertamina is carrying out upgrades to the APC Boiler-RU VI, optimisation of gas engines, implementation of biofuels, and optimisation of solar power plant (PLTS) usage in operations and offices. Pertamina is also continuing to develop clean energy programmes involving the community, such as the Independent Energy Village initiative, by optimising abundant clean energy sources in rural areas. This step is Pertamina’s commitment to building village-based energy self-sufficiency while boosting the community’s economy. Through various breakthroughs, Pertamina is currently maintaining an ESG Risk Rating at medium risk based on analysis by the ESG rating agency Sustainalytics, making Pertamina ranked 1 out of 54 companies worldwide in the integrated oil and gas sub-industry. Pertamina invites all Indonesians to jointly adopt a thrifty and wise energy lifestyle as a simple yet impactful step in maintaining energy sustainability and the earth for future generations. As a leading company in the energy transition sector, Pertamina is committed to supporting the 2060 Net Zero Emission target and continues to promote programmes that directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All these efforts align with Pertamina’s transformation oriented towards governance, public service, business and environmental sustainability, by applying Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles across all business lines and operations of Pertamina.
