Social media screenshots are circulating regarding changes to the prices of subsidised and non-subsidised fuels due to global oil market volatility. Pertamina has clarified that there has been no official announcement on Pertamax price adjustments as of Monday (30/3/2026). Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, emphasised that there has been no official announcement regarding changes to the price of Pertamax fuel. Therefore, the projections of fuel price increases spreading on social media cannot be verified. “As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding prices effective from 1 April 2026,” Baron stated when contacted from Jakarta on Monday. Baron urged the public to seek valid fuel price information through Pertamina’s official channels, namely www.pertamina.com. On that occasion, Baron also expressed support for the government’s call to use energy wisely. “Thus, the circulating projections of fuel price increases cannot be verified,” Baron added. The statement addresses the estimated retail prices for non-subsidised fuels in April 2026 that are spreading on social media. The circulating information states that the retail price for Pertamax fuel will be Rp17,850 per litre, an increase of Rp5,550 per litre from the previous March 2026 price of Rp12,300 per litre. This increase is influenced by the weakening rupiah exchange rate from Rp16,819 to Rp16,877 per US dollar. Additionally, the circulating information indicates that the Pertamax (RON 92) price increase is also affected by a 62.44 percent surge in the fuel price index (HIP) for RON 92, or US$46.15 per barrel, from US$73.91 per barrel to US$120 per barrel; or an increase of 62.99 percent (approximately Rp4,925 per litre) from Rp7,818 per litre to Rp12,744 per litre. Price increases are also estimated for other petrol products, such as Pertamax Green 95 (from Rp12,900 per litre to Rp19,150 per litre), and Pertamax Turbo (from Rp13,100 per litre to Rp19,450 per litre). Furthermore, for diesel fuels, Pertamina Dex is estimated to rise from Rp14,500 per litre to Rp23,950 per litre; and Dexlite from Rp14,200 per litre to Rp23,650 per litre. Meanwhile, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, along with the Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, are striving to prevent increases in the prices of subsidised fuels, such as Pertalite and Biosolar, amid the energy crisis.
