Pertamax Price Rises to Rp 16,250 per Litre, BP BUMN Chief Speaks Out

The Supervisory Board for State-Owned Enterprises (BP BUMN) has spoken out regarding the increase in the price of Pertamax to Rp 16,250 per litre starting today. BP BUMN head Dony Oskaria stated that the rise in the non-subsidised fuel price was inevitable as it follows market prices.

According to him, PT Pertamina (Persero) need not continuously bear the burden of rising global oil prices. Moreover, Pertamax still receives a 50 percent compensation, meaning the current price is half the market price.

"This increase is in line with global oil prices. Unless we raise it beyond the economic price, it is actually below the value that should be charged," he said when met after a meeting with Commission VI at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6/2026).

He argued that the Pertamax fuel price increase would not impact inflation because Pertamax usage is concentrated among the middle-to-upper class.

"It is not for industry and not for mass transportation, that is what the Minister meant. So it will not affect inflation. There is no need to worry too much; we should be optimistic and calm," he revealed.

Dony added that the Pertamax price hike had also been approved by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

"And it has already gone through a process with the Minister of ESDM. So the Ministry of ESDM, through its Director General, agreed to implement it," he concluded.
