Pertamax Price Hike Still Below Neighbouring Countries, Says Energy Ministry

Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia said she understands the public’s concerns regarding the increase in fuel prices, particularly Pertamax. Anggia stated that the decision to raise Pertamax prices cannot be separated from geopolitical conditions that significantly influence global oil prices. “This subsequently impacts fuel prices domestically, especially when discussing non-subsidised fuel,” Anggia told the press at the ministry’s media room in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6/2026). Anggia explained that non-subsidised fuel prices follow a market price mechanism. Consequently, PT Pertamina adjusts the selling price of non-subsidised fuel whenever global oil prices increase. “The parameters include not only the price of crude or refined fuel products, but also distribution costs, storage costs, taxes, and others. Therefore, under current conditions, an adjustment is unavoidable,” Anggia said. Anggia noted that the price of non-subsidised RON 92 fuel, or Pertamax, remains lower compared to similar fuel grades in other countries. She cited that RON 92 fuel prices in neighbouring countries have touched figures between Rp 20,000 and Rp 21,000 per litre. “So, the increase or adjustment made now is actually still far below the economic price. However, this is the best option, a middle path so that both parties can endure,” Anggia continued. With the price increase, Anggia stated the government can ensure long-term energy availability while maintaining price affordability for the public. “People’s purchasing power is maintained, even though there will inevitably be some impact,” Anggia concluded.
