Pertamax Price Hike: Secretary Teddy Compares Fuel Costs with Philippines and Singapore

Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya claimed that the price of non-subsidised fuel in Indonesia remains cheaper compared to other countries, responding to the recent surge in Pertamax prices.

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga raised the prices of Pertamax (RON 92) and Pertamax Green (RON 95) on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. Pertamax, previously sold at Rp 12,300 per litre, jumped to Rp 16,250 per litre, while Pertamax Green 95 increased from Rp 12,900 per litre to Rp 17,000 per litre. This increase occurred outside Pertamina’s regular schedule of announcing fuel price adjustments on the first of each month.

“Although it has increased, the price of Pertamax in Indonesia is far cheaper than RON 92/95 fuel in other countries,” Teddy said via a post on the @sekretariat.kabinet account on Friday, 12 June 2026. In the post, Teddy detailed fuel prices in several neighbouring Southeast Asian countries. For instance, the price in the Philippines is set at Rp 22,158 per litre; Laos at Rp 31,945 per litre; Thailand at Rp 28,910 per litre; Myanmar at Rp 25,085 per litre; and Singapore at Rp 42,971 per litre.

Unlike other ASEAN countries, the price of RON 95 fuel in Malaysia receives a subsidy, costing only RM1.99 or approximately Rp 8,800 per litre, while the non-subsidised RON 95 price for foreign nationals is RM3.72, or around Rp 16,450. In his statement, Teddy emphasised that Pertamax is a non-subsidised fuel. “This means the price of Pertamax must follow world oil prices,” he said.

Meanwhile, Teddy noted there has been no increase in the price of subsidised fuel types such as Pertalite and Solar. Since world oil prices rose due to the war involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, the price of subsidised fuel has remained at Rp 10,000 per litre for Pertalite and Rp 6,800 per litre for Solar. “World oil prices have risen drastically since March, but the government has held back the increase for months,” Teddy said.

The explanation regarding the Pertamax price increase came from Teddy Indra Wijaya on Friday evening around 19:00 WIB, amidst student demonstrations in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia area, Jakarta. The mass action had been ongoing since midday, with one of the demands being that the government lower the prices of basic necessities and fuel.
