Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, known as Cak Imin, has asked the public to remain calm in dealing with global economic turmoil that has impacted various sectors, including the increase in the price of Pertamax.

When asked by reporters about the Pertamax price hike, which is considered to have burdened the middle class, Cak Imin said the current global economic conditions are indeed volatile and must be faced collectively.

“Yes, of course, the global economy is currently in turmoil, we must tidy up, close ranks, and face it together calmly,” Cak Imin said after attending the 2026 National Entrepreneurship and MSMEs Day event in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He also asked the public to trust the government in taking the necessary policies to maintain national economic stability amidst the situation.

“Trust that the government will take important steps,” he said.

When asked about anticipatory measures or a social protection umbrella for affected communities, Cak Imin confirmed the government would prepare such steps.

“Definitely, definitely,” he said.

Pertamina announced the increase in non-subsidised fuel prices for Pertamax starting 10 June 2026. The price of Pertamax (RON 92) rose from Rp12,300 per litre to Rp16,250 per litre. Pertamax Green 95 (RON 95) rose from Rp12,900 per litre to Rp17,000 per litre. Meanwhile, Pertamax Turbo (RON 98) remained at Rp20,750 per litre.

Pertamina stated that this price adjustment was decided after coordination with the government as the regulator and was carried out according to a periodic evaluation mechanism considering the development of world oil prices and economic market prices.

“The price adjustment for Pertamax and Pertamax Green was carried out after going through an evaluation process according to the price formula set by the government,” said Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun in an official statement on Tuesday (9/6).

The increase in non-subsidised fuel prices has raised concerns regarding its impact on public purchasing power, particularly for the middle class group.
