Jakarta, VIVA – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is calculating the economics of the non-subsidised fuel price for Pertamax amid continued fluctuation in global oil prices caused by geopolitical turmoil.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot said the calculation of Pertamax’s economic price would take into account the supply cost (BPP) incurred by PT Pertamina (Persero), plus a profit margin.

“So later Pertamina’s BPP (supply cost) will be calculated plus profit. Then we at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will try to see how the economics of this price looks,” Yuliot said when confirmed by ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday (29/7/2026).

According to Yuliot, the price of Pertamax is linked to movements in global oil prices. The current oil market is also considered to carry a fairly high degree of uncertainty and fluctuation due to geopolitical dynamics.

As a result, the government does not only look at oil price movements at a single point in time. The ministry will calculate the average global oil price as one consideration in assessing the economics of Pertamax.

Pertamax Price Could Fall

Yuliot said that if the average global oil price shows a decline compared with the previous period, there is a possibility that the price of Pertamax will be adjusted.

Any price adjustment would be carried out by Pertamina, taking into account developments in global oil prices.

“If there is potential for the average oil price to fall, then of course Pertamina will adjust the price,” Yuliot said.

Thus, global oil price movements become one of the factors monitored in setting the price of the non-subsidised fuel Pertamax. The ministry will look at average price developments before determining the economic condition of the price.

The fluctuation in global oil prices comes amid geopolitical dynamics that have caused the energy commodity’s movements to shift quite sharply.
