Pertamax Fuel Price Predicted to Fall in July 2026

The price of non-subsidised fuel Pertamax is predicted to fall in early July 2026. This projection follows a decline in global crude oil prices, which are now hovering around 80 US dollars per barrel.

Energy economics analyst from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Fahmy Radhi, stated that the government should adjust the price downwards given the stabilising global market conditions. Previously, oil prices had surged above 100 US dollars per barrel due to geopolitical tensions between the US-Israel and Iran, which triggered the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. “At the beginning of July, the price of Pertamax should be lowered. After the easing of tensions between Iran and the US, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the scarcity problem is being resolved,” Fahmy said, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday (23/6).

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa also sees a potential for a Pertamax price reduction. He believes the prospect of peace between the US and Iran provides positive sentiment for the global economy, including strengthening the stability of the Rupiah exchange rate and creating a more competitive investment climate. However, the government remains cautious. Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) spokesperson Dwi Anggia emphasised that the ministry continues to monitor the still-fluctuating dynamics of Iran-US relations. The government is committed to securing alternative energy sources as a precautionary measure. “We must be optimistic, but anticipatory steps must also be taken because the situation is still dynamic,” Dwi Anggia said.

Evaluations of non-subsidised fuel prices in Indonesia are conducted periodically, considering the average global oil price and the Rupiah exchange rate. If the current Pertamax price is deemed above the market price during the upcoming July evaluation, a price reduction will be an unavoidable step for the government.
