Pertamax Fuel Price Confirmed Able to Fall Again, Here Are the Conditions

The Spokesperson for the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Dwi Anggia, has emphasised that non-subsidised fuel prices, including RON 92 Pertamax, could potentially decrease again, provided that global oil prices decline.

Dwi explained that non-subsidised fuel prices follow market pricing mechanisms. This is stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of ESDM Number 245.K/MG/01/MEM.M/2022, which regulates the base price formula for retail fuel calculations.

“Can (Pertamax) decrease again? Certainly. When global oil prices fall, it is certain that non-subsidised fuel prices will also decrease. Conversely, when global oil prices rise, non-subsidised fuel prices must inevitably adjust to their economic value,” she stated at the Government Communication Agency office on Wednesday (17/06/2026).

According to Refinitiv data at 08:20 WIB today, Wednesday (17/06/2026), Brent crude oil was priced at US$79.23 per barrel, a slight increase from the previous close of US$78.96 per barrel. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude stood at US$76.27 per barrel, higher than the previous day’s position of US$76.05 per barrel.

Dwi Anggia also noted that price increases for non-subsidised fuel in neighbouring countries have already exceeded those in Indonesia. The government, alongside relevant stakeholders, has been holding non-subsidised fuel prices steady since last April.

“Regarding neighbouring countries in the region, they experienced price adjustments much earlier,” she said.

“We know that in April, following the directives of President Prabowo Subianto, the President was still attempting to maintain economic stability and protect public purchasing power. This is why there were discussions with both state-owned and private enterprises to maintain the prices of non-subsidised fuel, specifically Pertamax,” said Dwi Anggia.

However, she noted that as time progresses and global oil price fluctuations become increasingly dynamic, businesses must adjust to economic realities.

During the briefing, she also emphasised that the prices of subsidised fuels, namely Pertalite and Solar, have not yet undergone any increases, a measure intended to protect vulnerable populations.
