Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) has strengthened its readiness, communications and coordination for crisis management through an emergency response simulation featuring random scenarios. The exercise was designed to ensure appropriate responses and accurate information if operational disruptions occur.

Pertagas Corporate Secretary Sulthani Adil Mangatur said the simulation, held in Jakarta on Thursday, focused not only on responding quickly to emergencies but also on taking appropriate action and providing accurate information to all stakeholders.

“The aim is to ensure that, when carrying out a response or communicating the facts, the information does not deviate from what happened. The public and our other stakeholders, including regulators and anyone else concerned, should have the same information and understanding of the situation,” Sulthani said after the exercise in Jakarta on Thursday.

He said a rapid response is not necessarily the best option if the action taken or information provided does not match the actual situation.

For that reason, readiness assessments focus not only on response times but also on adjusting procedures, supporting equipment and response requirements so that mitigation measures are appropriate.

Sulthani said Pertagas was also working to establish communications with various stakeholders before an emergency occurs, enabling more effective coordination when an incident happens.

Such communication is needed to ensure the company, regulators and other relevant parties share the same understanding of an event and to minimise the risk of conflicting information.

“Our hope is to minimise information or communication distortion,” he said.

The exercise combined emergency response and business continuity simulations to test the company’s readiness to deal with disruptions of varying severity.

Sulthani explained that emergency response focuses on acting quickly in the event of an incident, while business continuity concerns disruptions that have a greater impact on company operations or last longer.

The simulation involved various functions and divisions at the head office, teams in the relevant operational areas, and third-party observers who monitored the exercise.

The scenarios were conducted at random, without prior notice to company teams, so personnel could practise responding to evolving and unpredictable situations.

“The scenarios were conducted randomly, without any information being given to us beforehand,” he said.

Sulthani said Pertagas holds emergency response exercises at least once a year to maintain workers’ readiness, including that of new personnel, and ensure they understand their roles and the incident response process.

He said emergency response procedures also provide for escalation according to the type and scale of an incident, from operational areas to Pertagas’ head office.

If necessary, the response may involve PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, PT Pertamina (Persero), the police, energy regulators and environmental agencies, depending on the scale of the incident.

Company data from September 2026 show that Pertagas operates 2,991 kilometres of natural gas pipelines and 605 kilometres of oil pipelines, supporting energy distribution across various parts of Indonesia.

In the first half of 2026, Pertagas transported 1,606 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMSCFD), while oil transportation reached 151,881 barrels per day.

Meanwhile, in April 2026, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) appointed Pertagas as operator of the approximately 242-kilometre Cirebon–Semarang Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Phase II (Cisem II). The pipeline connects Batang in Central Java with Kandang Haur Timur in West Java and was declared ready for full operation in June 2026.
